The AMD EPYC processor range CPUs have three main security features. The first of which is AMD Secure Root-of-Trust technology, which ensures protection from rootkits/bootkits that can insert malicious code prior to the OS loading. With this feature in action, only known and trusted software will be able to load and run. This protection starts from the initial boot load and last through the BIOS load.
AMD Secure Run Technology safeguards the system from being exposed to methods of attack such as cold boot attack and memory scraping which can be implemented if data running within the main system memory is not encrypted. Secure Memory Encryption (SME) encrypts the system memory and SEV (Secure Encrypted Virtualization) isolates the hypervisor and guest virtual machines in order to prevent access to data in shared guest data areas.
